Cub Scenes Aerial Photography

The marriage of two passions

Flying & Photography

Aerial Photography is the art form of photographing all sorts of locations from an airplane, blimp, satellite, kite, hot air balloon or anything that can attain some height above the earth's surface. It first became common during WWI when it was used to plan combat tactics. Today, aerial photography is used for land development, archaeology, map making, looking at the environment and many other tasks. Aerial photography can be accomplished by a person in an airborne vehicle, or even remotely such as on the unmanned aerial vehicles used by the military.

But aerial photography from an airplane is special. Flying an aircraft around at low altitudes can provide dramatic views of any subject such as a building, business, home, special event, sports stadium or scenic landscape. Because anything can be photographed from the air little or no privacy because most air space is not restricted from flight. The most common requirement is to maintain a certain altitude above high population areas such as cities, stadiums, etc.

Another specialized form of aerial photography is done from satellites. Some of the more common ones are Google Earth, TerraFly, TopoZone and others. You will find links to these, and many other, sites under our PHOTO LINKS pages. Take some time and explore the fascinating world of aerial photography.

On this web site you will find incredible aerial photographs taken from an antique Piper J-3 Cub over mid-Michigan with digital photography so crystal clear that you will swear you can reach out and touch the subjects!  Aerial photography has advanced far beyond the “snap a quick picture” or land mapping to an art form which produces beautiful aerial views of any subject.  Whether it is an aerial photograph of your home or business, a local attraction such as a ball park or football stadium, aerial photography provides stunning and unique views which will bring years of enjoyment.

Over time the number of images, and locations, will expand to include more locations, and if you live in Michigan and would like an aerial photograph of your home or business, simply complete the request form and we will contact you to arrange a shoot.

Aerial photography was originally thought of in terms of high altitude mapping of land, but with the advent of high resolution cameras and the movie industry more and more interest has evolved to see how things look from the air. Today satellites are widely used for land surveys, and even for showing indiviual buildings and homes with startling detail. Imagine for a moment what the military satellites can see!

One of the early aircraft, the venerable Piper J-3 Cub aircraft, was first built in 1938 by William T. Piper and was envisioned to be a form of transportation as common as the automobile. But the Second World War got in the way, and while thousands of Piper Cubs were built, the promise was never fulfilled. There are a few airparks around the country, places where you can build or own a home on your own private airport, but most aircraft are based on airports around the country.  The AeroCar was a flop, and aviation become more and more the purview of the military and commercial airlines.  But aviation is so much more today.

Come share our love of aviation and passion for aerial photography for yourself and look through some spectacular photographs which we think will amaze and impress you.
